Keep Yourself Warm With Yutampo

It’s the middle of winter and finally the weather feels like it! It’s cold!
If your feet are frozen when you sleep at night, you might want to invest in a yutampo.
A yutampo (湯たんぽ） is just a hot water bottle, and they seem to be making a comeback in Japan. My wife asked for one for Christmas so I got one for her. It’s really simple to use - just fill it with hot water, seal and stick it under the futon. It will warm you up and possibly save you from keeping the heater on all night.
MUJI has one for under 1000 yen.

Great idea! I’ve had one under the bathroom cabinet for years but don’t really use it that often. I’m not sure what your is made of but ours is rubbery and I always put it in a pillow case after it is filled….and that’s a hack from my Mom for you! By the way I found this through Japan Soc :)

My first winter in Japan and I desperately needed a hot water bottle to compensate for my aparto’s tiny kerosene heater. Could I find one? Could I ‘eck! The people in shops didn’t have a clue what I was talking about either. Ended up getting folks from home sending me a couple.
Fast forward a couple of years and these yutampo appear on the market. About bloody time! Though I bet if I went into any of the shops previously, they’ll claim that they’re an ‘old japanese tradition’
